The Georgia General Assembly recently recognized three Magnet School students for international honors.
The state House of Representatives passed a resolution last week commending Johnathan Davis, Crystal Brockington and Alex Mann, all students at the Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology. The students, their families and school system representatives also were honored on the House floor.
Brockington and partner Davis were recognized by The state House of Representatives for placing second in the world in the 20th International Environmental Project Olympiad.Their project focused on the Optimization of Solar Cells Using Quantum Dots and Nanofibers.
Mann was recognized for placing third in the world competition. The Optimization of Solar Cells Using Quantum Dots and Nanofibers, which placed second in the world at the 20th International Environmental Project Olympiad. The project was completed with partner Johnathan Davis
"It was my pleasure to honor the Rockdale Students for their outstanding contributions to the International Olympiad in Istanbul, Turkey," said Rep. Pam Dickerson, D-Conyers, of District 113. "It is not often the good deeds of our students are mentioned, so when the opportunity presents itself, they should be applauded for the efforts. These students are still receiving accolades from my peers on their academic achievements, as most of my colleagues did not know anything about nanogenerators."
Mann's project, Piezoelectric Nanogenerators, was completed to produce nanogenerators out of electrospun fibers and conductive substrates. Davis' and Brockington's project, The Optimization of Solar Cells Using Quantum Dots and Nanofibers, experimented to increase the efficiency and output voltage of solar cells.
"This was an exceptional opportunity for our students to be recognized by the state House of Representatives and a very proud moment for us all," said Mary Ann Suddeth, director of the Magnet School. "Rockdale Magnet School students continue to excel beyond our expectations, and these students are stellar representatives of our student body."
