Garland ISD’s youngest entrepreneurs were honored at the Aug. 22 board of trustees meetings for their accomplishment in creating and running a successful business.

Sisters Jayla, Mya and Payton Dean are the brain child behind Be You Natural Products that sells skin care, bath and jewelry products that encourages self-acceptance and natural care. Their business began in 2013 when the girls made shea body butter to help family members with dry skin, the product was such a hit that they were inspired to create additional products which now includes body bars, scrubs, tea baths, mists and more.

“Our company is called Be You and we sell natural products that help you be your best self and not be anyone else because you can’t copy anyone else, you have to be yourself,” said Jayla.

Mya Dean said that running a successful business while in elementary school has encouraged self-acceptance.

“Jayla, Mya and Payton even started an aromatherapy jewelry line after feeling nervous about a standardized test. The scent of lavender calmed the nerves, which led to an excellent result,” said Dr. Mida Milligan, executive director of communications and public relations.

Milligan said Be You went public in 2015, selling their products at the St. Philip’s Kidpreneur Expo and now sell their products online as well at www.ilovebeyou.com.

“They now travel to festivals, farmers markets, pop-up shops and retail stores all across Dallas-Fort Worth. And they have taken the company national, traveling to Louisiana and Washington, D.C.,” Milligan said. Jayla, Mya and Payton are not just successful business owners and operators, however. They are exceptional students as well. Each one attends a magnet school in GISD.”

Jayla is a fourth-grader at Kimberlin Academy for Excellence, Mya, is a seventh-grader at Austin Academy for Excellence, and Payton is a fourth-grader at Watson Technology Center for Math and Science.
